Cam Ward and Sam Brown earn week 8 ACC Players of the Week
Miami quarterback Cam Ward was named the ACC Quarterback of the Week for the fifth time this season, while wide receiver Sam Brown earned his first ACC Receiver of the Week award. The duo helped lead the Hurricanes to a 52-45 victory over Louisville on Saturday.
Ward completed 21 passes in 32 attempts for 319 yards as he had his seventh consecutive game with Miami over 300 yards with multiple TD passes. The ACC also named Ward as the QB of the Week on September. 3, 23 and 30 and October 7. Ward has earned the ACC QB of the week five times in seven games for Miami.
Brown had the second highest receiving yards total of his career. Brown set his career high of 138 receiving yards on nine receptions with Houston in 2023 as they lost 43-41 to Rice in overtime. In Miami's balanced offense, Brown has 24 receptions for 371 yards and two touchdowns in 2024.
Miami had 519 total yards versus Louisville. The Hurricanes remain first nationally averaging 577.3 total yards per game and are now second posting 48.3 PPG. Indiana is first nationally averaging 48.7 PPG after their 56-7 win over Nebraska. Led by Ward Miami has produced over 500 yards in every game in 2024.
Miami has scored over 50 points in four games during a season for the first time in program history. This is arguably the best offense in Miami history. Ward is five TD passes away from tying the Miami single-season record of 29, set by Steve Walsh in 1988. Xavier Restrepo needs 12 receptions and 143 yards to tie the Miami career records.
Mike Harley holds the Miami career record with 182 receptions and Santana Moss is the program leader with 2,546 receiving yards. Florida State is 38th nationally allowing 198.0 passing yards per game. Florida State has an inconsistent pass defense allowing over 235 yards four times this season.
