Tennessee Titans rookie quarterback Cam Ward showed out on the first day of mandatory minicamp Tuesday, completing 20 of 21 passes — including a streak of 18 straight completions — in what the team dubbed his "best practice of the offseason." Ward’s lone blemish came on his third throw of the day during 7‑on‑7 drills, when a pass across the middle was intercepted by linebacker Cody Barton. What followed was pure dominance: 6-for-7 in the 7‑on‑7 period and a flawless 14-of-14 in team periods.

Titans senior writer Jim Wyatt called it the quarterback’s “best practice of the offseason,” while coach Brian Callahan praised his grasp of the playbook and mental growth on the field.
Ward leaned on some familiar faces, too. Former Miami Hurricanes wide receiver Xavier Restrepo, who signed with Tennessee as an undrafted free agent, led the team with six catches — four of which from Ward. Restrepo, a consensus All-American in 2024, had 69 receptions for 1,127 yards and 11 touchdowns in his final year at Miami.
“X is somebody who was deserving of it,” Ward said earlier this offseason, referring to Restrepo. “He is one of the most underrated players... he is going to continue to prove it.”
Ward and Restrepo connecting so effectively during minicamp is intriguing to the Titans. To be able to enter the NFL with that level of chemistry could be really beneficial to the development of both players.
Tuesday's clinic set a positive tone, but Wednesday’s practice also reminded observers of the learning curve ahead. Ward went 13-for-22 across competitive periods, throwing some sharp downfield strikes – including a 50-yard connection to Calvin Ridley – but also struggling with errant passes and a couple of fumbles in the pocket.
Tuesday’s showing shows his promise and the subsequent practice reminded all that rookie mistakes won’t be far off either.
