Miami quarterback Cam Ward and wide receiver Xavier Restrepo were the only 2024 teammates on the same side of the ball named first-team All-American by the Associated Press on Monday. Ward earned the Davey O'Brien Award as the best QB nationally last week.
Ward set Miami single-season records with 36 passing touchdowns, 4,123 passing yards and 4,326 total yards. Restrepo set Miami career records with 200 receptions and 2,844 receiving yards in 2024. Restrepo is two TD receptions behind Lamar Thomas for second place in Miami program history.
Both Restrepo and Ward are expected to play in the Pop-Tarts Bowl versus Iowa State on December 28. Restrepo and Ward are the first first-team AP All-Americans from Miami since safety Kamren Kinchens in 2022. Ward earned his third 2024 first-team All-American honors and Restrepo his second.
Ward was named a first-team All-American by the Walter Camp Foundation on Thursday and he and Restrepo earned the honor from the American Football Coaches Association on Friday. The honors were the latest for the duo recognizing their prolific seasons.
Ward earned the ACC Offensive Player of the Year and Player of the Year and he and Restrepo were both named first-team all-conference. Restrepo was named first-team All-ACC for the second consecutive year. Restrepo leads the ACC with 1,127 receiving yards and 11 TDs and is tied for fourth with 69 receptions.
Led by Ward and Restrepo, Miami was first nationally averaging 44.2 points per game and 538.3 yards per game. Miami was second nationally averaging 359.3 yards per game behind Syracuse, who beat Miami 42-38 in the final game of the regular season. Syracuse averages 363.1 passing yards per game in 2024.
After being named to three teams, Ward is now a consensus All-American. Restrepo would become a consensus All-American with one more selection. Kicker Jose Borregales was the last Miami consensus All-American in 2020.
