After leading the ACC with a 171.07 passer rating, 36 touchdowns and 9.5 yards per attempt, Miami quarterback Cam Ward was named the ACC Player of the Year. Ward earned the award after being named the ACC Preseason Player of the Year. Miami is first nationally in scoring and total offense and second in passing.

Ward set Miami single-season records for completions, pass attempts, completion percentage, passing yards and touchdowns, 200 games overall and consecutively, 300 and 400 yards games and total yards and the career record for passing percentage.

Without question Ward has had the best season in a Miami program that was once known as QB U. Ward should become the fourth Miami QB to be named a consensus first-team All-American. Vinny Testaverde in 1986, Steve Walsh in 1988 and Gino Torretta in 1992 were all consensus-first team All-Americans.

Testaverde and Torretta are also the only Miami Heisman Trophy winners. Torretta is the only Miami player to win the Heisman Trophy and a National Championship. Miami won the 1991 National Championship with Torretta at QB. Ward is a finalist for the Davey O’Brien National QB Award and Walter Camp Player of the Year Award,

Ward was also named the ACC Offensive Player of the Year on Wednesday. Ward had a dominant year in the ACC winning the QB of the Week six times in the 14-week season. In voting by the media, Ward received 59 out of the 71 votes for ACC Player of the Year and Offensive Player of the Year.

Ward led a Miami record 17 players on the All-ACC team. Four players were named first-team All ACC which obviously included Ward. Four more players were named to the All-ACC second team and nine Miami players earned honorable mention. Miami finished the season 10-2 and will await its bowl destination on Sunday,
