Cam Ward quietly broke 1 Miami record versus Duke and on verge of another
Cam Ward set the Miami single-season record with 33 touchdowns responsible for last week versus Duke. Ward set the record on a 49-yard TD pass to Jacolby George in the fourth quarter. Later in the game, Ward tied Steve Walsh for the Miami single-season record with 29 TD passes.
Ward has three rushing TDs and one receiving this season for 33 total passing Malik Rosier previously held the Miami record with 26 TD passes and five rushing scores for a total of 31 during the 2017 season. Rosier's record of 3,588 total yards in a season should fall on Saturday versus Georgia Tech.
Rosier had 3,210 passing yards and 468 rushing yards during the 2017 season for 3,588 total yards to set the Miami single-season record. Ward has 3,340 total yards in 2024 on 3,147 passing yards and a career-high 187 rushing yards. Ward is currently sixth all-time in Miami history for total yards.
Stephen Morris with 3,415 total yards in 2012, Bernie Kosar with 3,412 in 1984, Brad Kaaya with 3,396 in 2016 and Craig Erickson with 3,389 are who stands between Ward and the record set by Rosier in 2017. Ward should pass Erickson, Kaaya, Kosar and Morris by the second quarter.
Ward is averaging 349.6 passing yards per game. The Rosier record should fall sometime in the fourth quarter. The lowest total offense output for Ward in 2024 was 204 versus Florida State. When Ward has played a full game this season, his second-lowest output was 348 total yards versus Louisville.
Georgia Tech has been inconsistent defensively in 2024. The Yellow Jackets have held four opponents under 300 total yards and allowed 515 yards to Syracuse and 417 to North Carolina. Georgia Tech is third in the ACC allowing 323.3 total yards per game and fifth with opponents averaging 22.4 points per game.
It should be another record-setting day for Miami wide receiver Xavier Restrepo and Ward on Saturday at Georgia Tech. Restrepo is tied with Mike Harley for the program record of 182 career receptions. Restrepo tied Harley last week and passed Santana Moss for the program record of now 2,573 receiving yards.
