Cam Ward set the NCAA Division I NCAA career record with his 156th touchdown pass on Saturday in the Pop Tarts Bowl versus Iowa State. Ward set the record on a four-yard TD pass to Jacolby George on Miami's second possession. George was the only one of Miami's top four WRs to play on Saturday.

Ward threw 71 TD passes in two seasons at Incarnate Word, 48 at Washington State and the record breaker was the 37th for Ward with Miami. Ward threw two more in the first half and has 158 for his career. Case Keenum of Houston who still holds the FBS record, previously shared the all-time Divison I TD record with Ward at 155.

Ward passed another milestone on Saturday throwing for 190 yards and now has 18.197 for his career. Keenum holds the FBS record with 19,127 passing yards. Ward holds the Miami single-season records for passing yards and TDs and total yards. Ward will finish Saturday's game leading FBS in TD passes.

Ward's record could be challenged. Oregon quarterback Dillon Gabriel has 153 career TD passes, all in the FBS. Oregon plays Ohio State in the Rose Bowl on Saturday. If Oregon wins they advance to the Cotton Bowl National Semifinals. Gabriel is already the FBS career TD leader with 186, per Manny Navarro of The Athletic.

Ward finishes his career with the best season ever by a Miami QB and as one of the most prolific passers in Division I history. Several projections have Ward as the first pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. Vinny Testaverde was the last Miami QB selected in the first round of the common draft in 1986.

Testaverde was selected first overall by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Ward has shown what QBs can accomplish in Shannon Dawson's offense. Led by Ward, Miami is first nationally in scoring and total offense. After Saturday, Miami should finish the season as the top-ranked offense nationally.

Ward had a prolific first half despite Miami missing leading receiver Xavier Restrepo, Sam Brown and Isaiah Horton. Seven different receivers caught passes from Ward on Saturday as he had a stellar final performance in a Miami uniform.
