The decision by Cam Ward to transfer to Miami changed the balance of power in the ACC. Ward reportedly was down to Auburn, Florida State, Miami and USC or entering the NFL Draft when he chose to transfer in December after two seasons at Washington State.

Ward has changed Miami from a mediocre team to one on the verge of the College Football Playoff. Florida State added former Clemson and Oregon State QB DJ Uiagalelei as a transfer. Florida State struggled with Uiagalelei at QB before he suffered a hand injury that sidelined him indefinitely.

Uiagalelei averaged 213.0 passing yards per game and had a 111.97 passer rating with four touchdowns and six interceptions. Inconsistency has hindered Uiagalelei throughout his career. He played exceptionally well as a true freshman in 2020 when Trevor Lawrence was hurt.

After struggling as a sophomore in 2021, Uiagalelei had decent overall seasons at Clemson and Oregon State in 2022 and 2023. Uiagalelei never had a complete game in five starts for Florida State this season. The Florida State pass offense has struggled in 2024 no matter who has played QB.

Florida State is 89th nationally averaging 203.1 passing yards per game, 129th with a 105.38 passer rating, 118th with six TD passes and 113th with nine interceptions thrown. Brock Glenn who is expected to start for FSU versus Miami has completed 50.0 percent of his pass attempts for 338 yards, two TDs and three interceptions in 2024.

Ward is first nationally averaging 362.6 passing yards per game and with 24 TD passes. Ward is the co-leader with Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty at plus 200 to one odds to win the Heisman Trophy per Fan Duel. Ward has accounted for 67.5 percent of the Miami offense in 2024. Jeantry has accounted for 41.0 percent for Boise State.

No player has been more valuable for their team in 2024 than Ward. Ward is five TD passes behind the single-season Miami record set by Steve Walsh with 29 in 1988. Ward is on pace to break the Miami single-season passing yardage record by Bernie Kosar with 3,642 yards in 1985. Ward is having the best by a Miami QB in program history.
