Miami dropped its first game of the season, a 24-21 loss to Louisville, on Friday night.

The Hurricanes fell behind 14-0 and rallied on multiple occasions to keep the game within one score, but Carson Beck put an extinguisher to Heisman Trophy hopes by throwing four interceptions, including the last one with 32 seconds left in the fourth quarter while Miami was driving in Louisville territory.

Louisville has won five of the past nine against Miami and the last three games between the Hurricanes and Cardinals have all been within one score.

Hurricanes wide receiver Malachi Toney had another standout game with nine catches for 135 yards and a rushing touchdown, but the story was Beck, who entered the game as the Heisman favorite.

Fans lay blame for Miami's loss at Beck's feet

Beck's four interceptions is a career-high. The fifth-year senior had just six interceptions in his first year starting at Georgia, but had two three-interception games last season. The Miami offense could not get much going on the run game, forcing Beck to attack one of the best pass defenses in the country.

Two of the final three Hurricane drives ended with interceptions. It looked like Beck threw his third interception to JoJo Evans with 9:15 remaining in the game, but he was bailed out by a questionable roughing the passer call.

Four plays later, Beck threw another errant pass that Evans grabbed and this time it counted.

Beck's Heisman hopes take a fall

Coming into tonight, Beck was the Heisman favorite on most betting apps. Four interceptions later, Beck's Heisman campaign is done and fans are wondering what kind of effect this might have on the rest of Miami's season.

Gone with Beck's postseason awards hope is Miami's undefeated record and status as the best team in the ACC. There is much to be decided and the Hurricanes' resume is still solid, but they likely can't afford another loss.
