Max Chadwick of Pro Football Focus included Miami quarterback Carson Beck in his article "Revisiting College Football's Transfer Portal: 10 impact players to know." Beck transferred from perennial national championship contender Georgia to Miami during the winter transfer portal window.
Beck will be one of the most scrutinized players in college football in 2025. The transfer from Georgia to Miami by Beck was one of the most high-profile moves of the offseason. Beck might have been undisputedly the biggest transfer of the 2025 offseason until Nico Iamaleava transferred from Tennessee to UCLA.
Miami has the third-ranked 2025 transfer class behind LSU and Texas Tech. After losing their top six receivers from 2024, Miami added C.J. Daniels from LSU, Tony Johnson from Cincinnati and Keelan Marion from BYU at wide receiver as transfers to provide needed experience for Beck in 2025.
Beck is projected to play behind a better offensive line with Miami and dealt with a receiver corps with Georgia that was one of the worst nationally in dropped passes in 2024. Sophomore Joshisa Trader is expected to be one of the top four receivers for Miami in 2025 with Daniels, Johnson and Marion.

"QB Carson Beck, Miami (FL)Max Chadwick, Pro Football Focus.
After entering 2024 as PFF's top-ranked quarterback in college football, Beck disappointed in his final year at Georgia...(Beck's) 20 turnover-worthy plays...were tied for the sixth most in the country....Beck often forced throws due to the Bulldogs’ underwhelming receiving corps. Georgia’s 31 drops...were tied for the second most in the Power Four.
Beck still performed at a solid level (80.2 PFF passing grade in 2024). His 90.9 PFF overall grade since 2023 is the second-best mark of any returning FBS quarterback."
After entering 2024 as the top-ranked QB in college football by PFF, Beck is replacing the top pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, Cam Ward. Ward developed significantly under Miami offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson. Beck will hope to duplicate the development Ward had after transferring from Washington State.
In addition to having the second-best grade of any returning QB since 2023, Beck is also 24-3 in college as a starter. Beck's record with Georgia as a starter has often been lost with the criticism he has received during the 2025 offseason.
Beck should have more support than Ward received in 2024. Miami nearly completed rebuilt its secondary through the 2025 transfer portal, hired new defensive coordinator Corey Hetherman and three new assistants on defense. Miami should be more balanced in 2025, led by Beck at QB.
Beck should have less pressure on him to win games for Miami in 2025 if the defense improves as it is expected to. Miami won four games during the 2024 season when the defense allowed at least 30 points. Miami should not have to rely on Beck and the offense to produce at the level it did in 2024.
