Miami has produced 305 yards after the catch in its three College Football Playoff wins. Wide receivers C.J. Daniels, Keelan Marion and Malachi Toney all excel in the open field. According to Pro Football Focus, Miami quarterback Carson Beck is in the bottom 25 nationally, averaging 7.6 yards per depth of target in 2025.
After throwing for 241 combined yards against Texas A&M and Ohio State in the first two CFP games, Beck had 268 yards, two touchdowns and one interception in the Fiesta Bowl College Football Semifinal win over Mississippi.
Beck completed eight passes in 13 attempts for 93 yards and a TD with one rushing score in the fourth quarter against Mississippi. Miami had 162 yards after the catch against Mississippi. True freshman WR Malachi Toney had 77 YAC against Mississippi.
Toney finished with five receptions for 81 yards. The final reception for Toney was an explosive 36-yard TD with 5:04 that put Miami ahead 24-19. Miami is third nationally in YAC in 2025 per PFF. Dalton Wasserman of PFF noted Miami is also in the top five nationally in missed tackles forced after the catch.
"If Indiana can slow down Malachi Toney and Keelan Marion, in particular, after the catch, the Hoosiers are likely to create big advantages in coverage by forcing Carson Beck to throw the football downfield more often than he would like."Dalton Wasserman, Pro Football Focus
Beck and the Miami receivers will be challenged by an excellent Indiana defense. Per Wasserman, Indiana allowed 4.8 YAC in 2025, the 14th lowest nationally. Indiana has missed only 42 tackles in coverage during the 2025 season, fewer than three per game.
Beck got in trouble against Louisville when they gave him underneath routes, but he frequently looked to make big plays instead of what the defense was allowing him. Beck threw four interceptions as Miami lost 24-21 to Louisville in its first loss of the 2025 season.
If Miami can establish the run, Beck and the Hurricanes' passing game should open up. Beck took what the defense allowed him against Mississippi and put his receivers in position to make plays. That was particularly true in the fourth quarter.
