Carson Beck rises in Heisman odds after huge win over Notre Dame

One game into his Miami career, Carson Beck is already climbing the board of the most important individual award in college football. After guiding No. 10 Miami past No. 6 Notre Dame 27–24 on Sunday night, the senior quarterback rose to third in updated Heisman Trophy odds at multiple sportsbooks, trailing only LSU’s Garrett Nussmeier and South Carolina’s LaNorris Sellers.

Beck’s case is pretty easy to make after week 1. He won a top-10 game, didn't turn it over (thank you CJ Daniels), and looked in command from the jump. He went 20-for-31 for 205 yards and two touchdowns with zero interceptions against the Irish, while Miami protected him well enough that ND head coach Marcus Freeman lamented the lack of consistent four-man pressure. His efficiency — plus the go-ahead drive capped by a 47-yard Carter Davis field goal with 1:04 left — sets him up to build on the resume in the coming weeks.

Also, Associated Press voters pushed Miami into the top five on Tuesday — Buckeyes No. 1, then Penn State, LSU, Georgia and Miami at No. 5 — which effectively validates the quality of Beck’s first Miami win. The Coaches Poll was a touch stingier, keeping Miami No. 7, but that split doesn’t change his Heisman math.

The ingredients around Beck look Heisman-friendly, too. True freshman Malachi Toney led the Hurricanes with six catches for 82 yards and a score, transfer CJ Daniels added a touchdown, and Miami balanced the script with 127 rushing yards while finishing clean in turnovers (+2). Add a defense that ended the game with back-to-back sacks and you get the complementary football Heisman contenders usually ride through September.

It’s early, and the calendar will demand volume as the schedule softens, but Beck’s first impression moved the number. He’s now sitting behind two quarterbacks whose teams also banked quality wins, he’s quarterbacking an AP top-five program, and his next chance to add stat weight arrives this weekend against an overmatched opponent in Bethune-Cookman.
