Carson Beck said he questioned whether he would ever throw a football the same way again after last winter's elbow surgery, describing his return to form as a reminder that "you're one play away" in a sit-down with Desmond Howard that aired on ESPN's College GameDay on Sept. 20.

When Beck transferred from Georgia in January, he had undergone right-elbow surgery and wasn't expected to resume throwing until March. Beck arrived at Miami with 58 career touchdown passes and a 23-3 record as a starter. In 2024, he started 13 games and threw for 3,485 yards with 28 touchdowns and 12 interceptions on 64.7 percent passing (7.8 yards per attempt). His 2023 season was even more efficient. Beck completed 72.4 percent for 3,941 yards, 24 touchdowns and six interceptions across 14 games as Georgia’s first-year starter, averaging 9.5 yards per attempt with a 167.9 passer rating.
Through three games, the on-field returns have matched the preseason billing (No. 1 transfer in the offseason). Miami also climbed to No. 4 in the AP Top 25 entering their matchup against Florida. In this season, the senior has completed 65 of 82 passes (79.3 percent) for 812 yards, seven touchdowns and two interceptions. His Total QBR is 89.9, which ranks No. 4 nationally. In the opener, Beck went 20 of 31 for 205 yards and two scores in a 27-24 win over then-No. 6 Notre Dame.
He followed with 24 of 26 for 267 yards and two touchdowns against Bethune-Cookman, then 23 of 28 for 340 yards, three touchdowns and two picks in a 49-12 rout of then-No. 18 USF. Miami has won nine straight at home dating back to 2024, and Beck has piloted an offense that hasn't missed a beat despite losing its top-six pass catchers from last year.
