Carson Beck should take full advantage of Cardinals' Jacoby Brissett drama

Beck being QB1 for Arizona isn't as crazy as it sounds.

There truly could not have been a better landing spot for former Miami quarterback Carson Beck in the NFL Draft. Sure, he was hoping to be a Day 1 pick, but he fell to No. 65 overall and the Arizona Cardinals decided to take him off of the board.

Mario Cristobal and Miami still have plenty of OL options to go after

Why is this such a good fit for Beck? Because he could end up having a great chance to start once Week 1 rolls around. That's because Arizona veteran Jacoby Brissett wants a new contract and he was a no-show for the team's start to voluntary workouts.

This is a situation that likely won't get resolved soon, meaning Beck and Gardner Minshew are going to be the two main QBs in Arizona that people are going to be focused on. Because of this, Beck is in a prime situation to impress the Cardinals' coaches and do what he can to win over their trust early on.

Jacoby Brissett skipping voluntary workouts could prove to be gold for Carson Beck

Should Brissett swallow his pride and make his way to camp later this year, then Beck will have to sit on the bench until his number is called. However, NFL insider Jason La Canfora has already predicted that Brissett will get traded before the deadline this fall.

If that does end up happening, then either Minshew or Beck would take over the offense for Jonathan Gannon. Minshew of course has the experience advantage, as the former record-setter at Washington State has been a bit of a journeyman quarterback since making his way to the league in 2019. He has since suited up for Jacksonville, Philadelphia, Indianapolis, Las Vegas and Kansas City.

As for Beck, he's going to be a baby-faced rookie in the NFC West, but he's a gamer and will be ready to do whatever's asked of him moving forward. Beck only spent one season with the Canes, but he helped Miami reach the College Football Playoff and eventually play in the national title game.

The loss to Fernando Mendoza and Indiana stung, but it didn't take away from what Beck and Co. were able to get done. Once next season gets here, Beck will be focused on helping Arizona get back on the right track. Could that begin with him leading the offense out onto the field come Week 1? With how things are looking with Brissett, you never know. But again, even if the veteran QB does return, Beck eventually taking over midway through the season should also be on the table.
