During his first offseason with Miami, quarterback Carson Beck worked on developing offensive chemistry that included breaking down film with the other signal callers. Beck discussed building relationships with each of the offensive position groups at ACC Kickoff on Tuesday in Charlotte.
Beck had a chance to bond with his teammates while rehabbing from a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow that required surgery. Being unable to participate in spring practice gave Beck the opportunity to observe and help the coaching staff mentor the other offensive players.
The Miami passing game will look completely different in 2025 with Beck and a nearly all-new receiving corps. Miami lost its top six 2024 receivers. Miami brought in transfers C.J. Daniels, Tony Johnson and Keelan Marion, who, with returning sophomore JoJo Trader, are expected to form the 2025 Miami receiving corps.
Sophomore Elija Lofton returns at tight end. Lofton is expected to have a breakout 2025 season after backing up Elijah Arroyo, who is now with the Seattle Seahawks. Beck will play behind one of the most experienced offensive lines in the country.
Developing the relationships and building the chemistry between me, the wide receivers, the running backs, the tight ends, the O-line, and just trying to develop those relationships and that camaraderie, it's just reinforced my decision in a positive way.
Miami returns Mark Fletcher Jr. and Jordan Lyle at running back and added North Dakota State transfer CharMar Brown. Lost in the 2024 season that Cam Ward had was that Miami was sixth nationally, averaging 5.67 yards per carry. Miami can rely on the run when they have to.
I'm really excited to continue to keep working with these guys. Obviously, the spring, it was a little slow for me. I tried to take care of a coaching role, a coaching aspect.
Missing spring practice due to his rehab makes August training camp more important for Beck. It is difficult to simulate the chemistry of throwing to a receiver for a QB. Beck will be able to return to being part of the team on the field and competing with his teammat the beginning of training camp.

Being behind every single play, trying to help the other quarterbacks that were in there getting reps, picking out one singular receiver at practice and watching every single one of his reps and then going in and watching the film with him after and teaching him certain things, certain intricacies and routes and concepts and trying to teach everybody the way I see the game so that we're all on the same page.
Beck taking the time to work with the receivers and other QBs will help Miami in 2025 and beyond. Beck can teach the receivers how he thinks about the game, his own intricacies and where he likes to throw to. Beck working with the backup QBs will help Miami after his one season with the Hurricanes in 2025.
Beck has seemingly embraced being a leader specifically for Miami offensively and more so for the entire football program. Working with his teammates from the moment he arrived in Miami despite having to rehab speaks a lot about Beck's leadership ability and should help Miami throughout the 2025 season.
