After a couple of nice runs last week against USF, Carson Beck is ready to show off the wheels even more this week against Florida.
Hurricanes offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson said that Beck regularly asks for more opportunities to use his mobility and add a quarterback run element to the offense.
Shannon Dawson said Carson Beck asks to run the ball a lot.

"He asks to do it. He asks to do it a lot more than I do it. ... Probably most plays that he draws up on my board in my office are some form of a quarterback run game."
Dawson, however, said that the defense can sometimes dictate whether Beck gets more running opportunities, especially when they are running zone reads and Beck has the option of keeping the ball.
"Ultimately, in our run game, especially our zone game, I mean, if people are going to squeeze the box like South Florida was doing, then we have to make them account for him as a runner," Dawson added. "Because he is a lot more athletic than people will probably give him credit for. He's big and hard to tackle. And so, if people are squeezing the box, that's just another way to get the ball outside."
So we should expect to see Beck run a little more. He won't be the next Michael Vick or anything, but Beck has had some success running in the past. In 2023, Beck scored four rushing touchdowns while starting at Georgia.
Dawson's appreciates Beck's short memory
Beck threw four touchdowns last week, but also had his first two interceptions of the season. It didn't do much to change the outcome of the Hurricanes' 49-12 win, but it did allow Dawson to see how Beck handles mistakes. Not surprisingly, Beck handles it with the maturity you would expect from a player in his third year starting.
"The first two weeks [there were] no turnovers…but inevitably it's going to happen, like you're going to throw a pick at some point, right?," Dawson said. "Ultimately, what you'd like to see is no...nothing... The quarterback comes over and absolutely moves directly on from interceptions and that's what I saw."
