Miami quarterback Carson Beck drew praise from CFP committee chair Hunter Yurachek for his play in leading the Hurricanes to three consecutive decisive wins. Beck struggled in losses to Louisville and SMU with two touchdowns and six interceptions.
Beck has completed 75.6 percent of his pass attempts for 2,260 yards, 20 touchdowns and three interceptions in Miami's nine wins. In the two Miami losses, Beck completed 69.9 percent of his passes for 545 yards and the two TDs and six interceptions in the losses to Louisville and SMU.
Miami is averaging 39.6 PPG in wins and 22.0 in losses. Beck playing well also helps balance the Miami offense. Miami is averaging 208.00 rushing yards per game in wins and 132.5 in losses. The ceiling for Miami allowed Miami to be ranked second nationally after a 5-0 start.
Even with the praise from Yurachek about the consistency Beck has shown, Miami is still three spots below Notre Dame. Miami moved up to 12th in the rankings, but Notre Dame is ninth. The Hurricanes defeated the Fighting Irish 27-24 in the season opener.

"You talk about Carson Beck, over the last three games, he has completed over 80 percent of his passes, over 800 yards of total passing, eight touchdowns and no interceptions...He looks like the Carson Beck in that five-game winning streak to start the season. They lost two out of three, but now it appears that they're back on track. They started in this poll at 18 and now they're up to 12. They're the biggest movers so far of the past four weeks."CFP committee chair Hunter Yurachek
Beck completed 73.4 percent of his pass attempts for 1,213 yards, 11 touchdowns and three interceptions in the first five games for Miami in 2025. Miami beat Notre Dame, Bethune-Cookman, South Florida, Florida and Florida State with a bye in the first six weeks of the 2025 season.
Miami has outscored Stanford, Syracuse and Virginia Tech by a combined score of 113 to 34 in its last three games. Beck has been a huge part of Miami's success in getting back on track. Mario Cristobal stressed the importance of finishing 1-0 each week. Miami needs to beat Pittsburgh on Saturday or be eliminated from the CFP.
Although Miami is 12th in the CFP Rankings that were released on Tuesday night, it likely needs to move up to 10th to earn a CFP berth. The top Group of Five team and the ACC Champion, if it is not Miami (which is likely), will probably finish below the Hurricanes in the CFP rankings.
