CJ Daniels is making a lasting impression on Sean McVay and Rams coaching staff

Sean McVay is already talking up one of his rookies. The Los Angeles Rams head coach recently praised former Miami wide receiver CJ Daniels, describing him as a mature, no-nonsense rookie who has stood out for how well he listens and how much he genuinely enjoys the game.

McVay pointed to Daniels soaking up lessons from a receiver room that includes Robert Woods and Davante Adams, calling it a group he's excited to have Daniels learning from.

For a receiver who went from a two-star afterthought to a starter on a team that played for a national title, getting early praise from a coach like McVay is a solid sign that the next step isn't too big for him.

CJ Daniels is trying to find his footing in the NFL

Daniels was a two-star recruit out of Parkview High School in Georgia, where he caught 93 passes for 1,411 yards and 15 touchdowns as a senior. He landed at Liberty in 2020 with almost no national attention, but broke out in 2023, leading the team with 55 catches for 1,067 yards and 10 touchdowns.

From there he moved to LSU, where he caught 42 passes for 480 yards, before transferring to Miami for his final season of eligibility.

Daniels caught 50 passes for 557 yards and seven touchdowns in 13 games for the Hurricanes in 2025, playing a meaningful role in the offense during Miami's run to the national championship game.

The state of the Rams' WR room

Puka Nacua just led the NFL in receptions, earned First Team All-Pro honors, and now owns the league record for career receiving yards per game. Davante Adams enters his second year in Los Angeles after leading the NFL in receiving touchdowns in 2025. Daniels has been ticketed as Adams primary backup on the Rams depth chart.

Jordan Whittington, Xavier Smith, Konata Mumpfield and Tyler Scott fill in the remaining spots.
