Tre Donaldson, completing his collegiate eligibility, leaves an opening for Miami at point guard. Miami legacy Edgerrin "Jizzle" James Jr., the son of the legendary Hurricanes running back, could be a possibility in the Transfer Portal. James spent his first three seasons with Cincinnati.

In 95 games with 58 starts over three seasons with Cincinnati, James averaged 10.8 points per game on 42.0 percent from the field, 32.8 percent on three-point attempts, 77.3 percent from the free throw line with a 47.7 eFG percentage while contributing 2.4 rebounds and 2.6 assists.

After being removed from the Cincinnati roster in September, James was reinstated by former coach Wes Miller in part due to injuries the Bearcats had, per Bearcat Journal. After averaging 12.7 PPG, 3.0 RPG and 3.5 APG, starting all 35 games in 2024-25, James slipped to 10.9 PPG, 2.2 RPG and 2.1 APG in 25 games with 23 starts in 2024-25.

James had the best shooting numbers of his collegiate career in 2025-26, making 44.0 percent of his field goal attempts, 44.2 percent of his three-point attempts, with a 53.7 eFG percentage in 29.9 minutes per game. Donaldson put up bigger numbers for Miami in 2025-26, playing over four minutes than James averaged with Cincinnati.

Donaldson was a Miami workhorse

Donaldson had the best year of his collegiate career with Miami, averaging 34.0 MPG,16.4 PPG on 45.5 percent from the field and 35,9 percent on three-point attempts with a 50.9 eFG percentage while contributing 3.6 RPG and leading the Hurricanes with 5.7 APG and 1.4 steals.

James had the most efficient season of his collegiate career in 2025-26. Playing under Lucas with the development Donaldson had under the Hurricanes' first-year coach could be promising for James. James played at Orlando, Olympia High School and considered Miami as a prep prospect.
