Daniel Cuvet's HR around Pesky's Pole leads Miami sweep over Boston College

Daniel Cuvet hit a home run around Pesky's pole in the top of the eighth and Miami received key defensive plays late to beat Boston College on Sunday at Fenway Park.

Daniel Cuvet hit a three-run home run around Pesky's Pole in right field in the top of the eighth inning as Miami beat Boston College in the annual ALS Awareness Game at Fenway Park and sweep the three-game weekend series with a 3-2 win on Sunday.

Jake Ogden started a 6-3 double play in the bottom of the eighth inning with runners on first and second and one out to end the inning. Jake Toomey had a hardly-hit ground ball to the right of second base that Ogden fielded, stepped on second and threw to first to complete the double play and get out of the eight inning.

With one out in the ninth inning Miami second baseman Dorian Gonzales took away a sure hit with a diving play before throwing out Adam Magpoc of Boston College Kyle Wolff got a two-out two-strike bloop single in the bottom of the ninth inning to put the tying run on base.

Brian Walters got Vince Cimini to fly out deep to right center field near the deepest part of Fenway Park to end the game. Walter pitched the final two innings, allowing two hits and walk with a strikeout for his sixth save. Carl Fischer improved to 4-1 with two innings of scoreless relief.

Miami had opportunities throughout the game, but only scored on the Cuvet HR. Ogden led Miami with three hits in five at-bats. Cuvet and Fabio Peralta had two hits each. The second, fifth and eighth innings were the only one Miami did not leave runners on base.

Boston College scored first on a bases loaded walk by Magpoc in the bottom of the first inning. A Colin Larson HR in the bottom of the fifth inning extended the Boston College lead to 2-0. Boston College had seven hits but only left four runners on base.

Brady Miller pitched seven innings, allowing five hits with a walk and one strikeout. Joey Ryan pitched the final two innings for Boston College and took the loss. Tate DeRias started for Miami and pitched five innings, allowing two runs, one earned with five hits, two walks and three strikeouts.

Miami earned its second consecutive ACC sweep, won its fourth straight conference series and has won eight consecutive ACC games to improve to 27-18 overall and 12-9 in the conference. Miami is off until Friday when they host North Carolina State for a three-game series through Sunday.
