The Miami Hurricanes made their mark in the 2026 NFL Draft with three first-round picks and nine players overall selected during the NFL's three-day showcase. However, things could get even better in the 2027 Draft when another group of Hurricanes is expected to hear their name called and quarterback Darian Mensah might be at the top of the list.
Mensah is tied for the ninth-best odds (-2200) to be the first overall pick in the 2027 Draft according to FanDuel. The quarterback transferred to Miami from Duke in the offseason and is expected to be the trigger man for a team looking to compete for a CFP championship.

Mensah was entertaining the idea of declaring himself for this draft and CBSSports' John Taity suggested that Mensah would be an early round pick. Given how the QB situation in this year's draft went, it wouldn't have shocked me if Mensah was picked in the first round. But instead, he's taking on the challenge of leading the Hurricanes to their first championship in 25 years and possibly being the guy in next year's draft.
Darian Mensah has solid odds for No. 1 pick in 2027 Draft
Texas quarterback Arch Manning (+155) has the best odds to be the No. 1 pick and that should be no surprise. He's a Manning, and it's going to be very hard to unseat him from that spot unless he completely falls on his face in Austin. Beyond that, some of these odds are interesting. Jeremiah Smith (-600) feels like the only non-QB possibility to go No. 1, but C.J. Carr (-500) doesn't look like a future top overall pick to me and the odds on Oklahoma State quarterback Drew Mestemaker (-1200) seem generous at best.Â
Miami has had three players go No. 1 in the NFL Draft, quarterbacks Vinny Testaverde (1987) and Cam Ward (2025) along with defensive tackle Russell Maryland (1991). After the offseason that Mensah had trying to transfer to Miami, I'm sure the NFL Draft is the last thing on Mensah's mind, but there's no question that NFL scouts will be watching what he does with the Hurricanes very closely.Â
