As Jai Lucas discussed in his introductory press conference, the potential of Miami needing to add 13 new players for a complete rebuild of the roster appears to be a reality. Joe Tipton of On3 reported Saturday morning that Miami sophomore guard Paul Djobet will enter the transfer portal.
The transfer portal opens officially on Monday following the conclusion of the second round of the NCAA Tournament on Sunday. Redshirt junior guard A.J. Staton-McCray is the only player remaining on the Miami roster with eligibility beyond the 2024-25 season. Staton-McCray is not expected to return after participating in Senior Day.
Djobet averaged 5.5 points and 2.2 rebounds while shooting 46.1 percent from the floor, 38.2 percent from three and 77.1 percent from the free throw line in 2024-25. Miami initially signed Djobet in the 2023 class as the 237th prospect, 55th small forward and 21st player in Florida out of Orlando West Oaks Academy.
Djobet is originally from Lille, France. Miami was successful throughout Jim Larranaga's tenure signing foreign-born players or adding them as transfers. With an entirely new roster needed expect Lucas to examine every possibility of adding players to the Miami 2025-26 roster.

Lucas is regarded as one of the best recruiters in college basketball. With Djobet 6'7 and 209 pounds, Miami loses a versatile player who provided length on the perimeter. Djobet added depth to the Miami roster with the ability to play multiple positions. Lucas will likely attempt to add similar players for 2025-26.
Expect Lucas to be patient in the transfer portal. There will be 16 teams remaining in the NCAA Tournament and several others in the additional postseason competitions still being played beyond Sunday. Keep an eye on potential Duke transfers as Lucas played a huge role in recruiting many, if not most of the Duke players.
