Early 2027 NFL mocks already see Miami producing another first-round defender

Ahmad Moten's 2027 NFL Draft buzz shows Miami’s defensive line pipeline is not slowing down.

Miami just had three players drafted in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft, including two defensive linemen. The early 2027 mock draft cycle is already pointing toward the next name in that pipeline.

CBS Sports projected Miami defensive lineman Ahmad Moten Sr. to the Jacksonville Jaguars with the No. 18 pick in its way-too-early 2027 NFL mock draft.

CBS Sports puts Ahmad Moten in first round of 2027 mock draft

"With Reuben Bain and Akheem Mesidor coming off the board in the first round of Thursday's NFL Draft, it's time to get familiar with Moten. At 6-foot-3 and 320 pounds, he's a bull in a china shop, pairing an explosive first step with the quickness to disrupt opposing backfields. A versatile piece who can line up across the front, don't be surprised if he comes off the board earlier than expected."
Cooper Petagna

In 2025, Moten logged 31 tackles, nine tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks and four quarterback hurries in 14 games.

Pro Football Network's way-too-early 2027 mock put Moten at No. 24 to the Los Angeles Chargers, which would create a Miami connection after the Chargers selected Akheem Mesidor in the first round of the 2026 draft.

USA Today's early mock had Moten going No. 28 to the Chicago Bears. That same mock also included another Hurricane, projecting Miami edge rusher Damon Wilson II to the Buffalo Bills at No. 26. Wilson transferred to Miami after a strong 2025 season at Missouri, where he had 23 tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss and nine sacks while earning second-team All-SEC honors.

Quarterback Darian Mensah is also a name to watch if he declares for the 2027 NFL draft.

Miami had nine players selected in the 2026 NFL Draft, its most since 2017. The Hurricanes had three first-rounders for the first time since 2007 with Francis Mauigoa at No. 10, Rueben Bain at No. 15 and Mesidor at No. 22. They also had 16 draft picks across the last two years, Miami's best two-year stretch since 2003-04.
