ESPN's annual offseason story presents a new batch of ridiculous Miami-Notre Dame takes

This offseason is going to be a long one if this is the best that the "home of college football" has to offer

ESPN just dropped a bunch of offseason lists and charts and predictions in one big story. The Miami Hurricanes are a big part of the discussion in a number of areas, and it's a pretty fun read overall. But these sorts of stories often lack simple logic and are a little biased. I get it though. They have to protect the logo.

The point of contention that I have is with the areas that include Miami and Notre Dame. The programs have been intertwined since the start of the CFP rankings last season, and it's continued in the offseason as Mario Cristobal and Marcus Freeman seem to have a head-to-head recruiting battle each week. But this is about what's going to happen on the field this fall and why ESPN is so far off the mark with all of it.

ESPN has Miami-Notre Dame at No. 4 on the must-see list

I am not surprised that ESPN doesn't have the highly anticipated primetime showdown between the Hurricanes and Irish at No. 1 or even in the top three. The network isn't broadcasting the game, and it would be against the rules for ESPN to suggest that another network, much less NBC, which is Notre Dame's TV home AND one of the broadcast partners for the evil Big Ten.

So which games are ahead of this late-season clash between top teams that are likely to be undefeated and be in the top five? Ohio State at Texas? Ok, I can see that. Ohio State vs. Indiana? A regular season game between the past two CFP champions is a worthy choice. But ESPN has LSU vs. Ole Miss as the most must-see game in college football.

Pardon me while I chuckle.

Do you know who cares about LSU and Ole Miss? LSU fans and Ole Miss fans because that game is going to be completely meaningless for everyone else in the country. I guess it's the "Lane Kiffin Bowl", as if that matters to anyone outside of those two sets of fans. Kiffin has somehow become the next Nick Saban because the state of Louisiana decided to blow up their budget to hire a guy that has two Conference USA championships to his name. Because ESPN covered Kiffin's move from one mid-level SEC program to another like it was the G8 summit, we have to believe that this game, where the winner will have the inside track to the ReliaQuest Bowl, is more important than the one that could determine the No. 1 seed in the 12-team CFP playoff.

To add upon this silliness, ESPN's "wild predictions" have Notre Dame beating Miami on November 7 and getting an at-large spot over the Hurricanes? Huh? The loser of that game is going to have 10 wins at minimum at the end of the season. And Miami is probably winning the ACC. I am all for wild predictions, but that is complete nonsense. It doesn't make sense. None of this makes sense. Make it make sense!
