ESPN writer states Carson Beck should have made the Top 100 list for 2024

ESPN writer Adam Rittenberg questioned why 2025 Miami starting quarterback Carson Beck was not among the Top 100 players in College Football on their end of the season list.

Carson Beck, who had an inconsistent season as the Georgia starting quarterback, was left off the top 100 players in college football by ESPN on its end of the season list. ESPN College Football Writer Adam Rittenberg named Beck in the article "CFB Player Rank: Who should've made the list? Who could've been ranked higher?"

Beck had a precipitous fall out of the Top 100 after being ranked in the Top 10 in ESPN's preseason Top 100 rankings. Beck completed 64.7 percent of his pass attempts for 3,485 yards, 28 touchdowns and 12 interceptions with 71 rushing yards and another score in 2024.

Beck's season was basically in multiple stages. Beck threw for seven TDs and no interceptions through the first three games of the season. Against Alabama, Beck and Georgia overcame a 28-0 deficit in the first half to take the lead before losing 41-34. Beck threw for 439 yards, three TDs and three interceptions.

A week later at Auburn, Beck threw for 240 yards and two TDs. After Auburn, Beck had a four game stretch with two games under 200 yards passing, five TDs and nine interceptions. Beck closed the season with 11 TDs and no interceptions in his final four games before suffering a season-ending UCL injury in the SEC Championship Game.

"Georgia quarterback Carson Beck went from No. 7 on the preseason list to unranked. He projected as the top draft-eligible quarterback but instead will spend another season in college -- with another team in Miami. Beck didn't have an awful season, but 10 interceptions during a four-game stretch set off alarms. "
Adam Rittenberg, ESPN

Beck hopes to emulate the rise Cam Ward had in 2024. Ward went from a projected late day two or day three pick in the 2024 NFL Draft to the expected top overall selection in 2025. Beck is currently 41st on the 2026 NFL Mock Draft Database big board. That is much higher than Ward was in January 2024.

Beck finished the 2024 season 13th nationally averaging 268.1 passing yards per game and 14th with 28 TD passes. The 11 interceptions thrown by Beck in 2024 are concerning and tied for fourth nationally. Miami offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson helped Ward cut down on his fumbles from 2023.

Beck and Dawson should be able to work together and reduce the interceptions in 2024. The beginning and end of the season showed the type of QB Beck is capable of being when he is healthy. Beck and Miami should be a great match the same way Ward was in 2024.
