Miami is 3-3 in the games immediately after a regular-season bye under Mario Cristobal, and every one of those six games since 2022 has come against an ACC opponent. The Hurricanes are 5-0 and ranked No. 4 heading into their bye week before they face Florida State on Oct. 17. Let's take a deeper look at how Cristobal's Canes have fared in this situation.

Miami Hurricanes coming off of a bye in the Mario Cristobal era

In 2022, Miami came out of its bye against North Carolina and lost 27-24. The Hurricanes had just been beaten 45-31 by Middle Tennessee.

Tyler Van Dyke threw for 496 yards and three touchdowns, Miami intercepted Drake Maye twice and sacked him five times, and the Hurricanes managed only 41 rushing yards.

In 2023, Miami entered its bye 4-0, but despite outgaining Georgia Tech 454-250 in total yards, the Canes lost 23-20. The Hurricanes committed five turnovers in the game, and Haynes King threw a 44-yard touchdown with one second left to steal the win.

The first post-bye win came in 2024 at Louisville, 52-45. Cam Ward threw four touchdown passes, Miami rushed for 219 yards, and Xavier Restrepo and Sam Brown each finished with more than 100 receiving yards.

Later that season, after the first loss at Georgia Tech, Miami beat Wake Forest off a bye, 42-14. The Hurricanes gained 508 total yards, held Wake Forest to 193 yards and 3.4 yards per play, and scored 22 points in the final eight minutes.

Miami had two bye weeks in 2025, with the first game after an off week being a trip to No. 18 Florida State. It was also Miami's first road game of the season, which they won 28-22 in Tallahassee.

Carson Beck threw four touchdowns without a turnover, Miami forced three Florida State turnovers, built a 28-3 lead and kept an offense that had been averaging 53 points and 600 yards out of the end zone until the fourth quarter.

The Hurricanes then had another bye week later in the season and ended up losing at home to Louisville, 24-21, when they returned to play. They rushed for 64 yards, Beck threw four interceptions, and No. 2 Miami took its first loss of the season.

Across all six post-bye games, Miami has scored 187 points and allowed 155, averages of 31.2 and 25.8.

Miami is 2-0 on the road after byes under Cristobal, with the wins at Louisville in 2024 and at Florida State in 2025, and 1-3 at home. Florida State comes to Hard Rock Stadium next week.
