The Miami Hurricanes are a little more than 24 hours away from their CFP semifinal game against Ole Miss in the Fiesta Bowl. But while they are preparing for the next step in this run toward a championship, the transfer portal is open and business is continuing as normal. That means even players on the current roster are making decisions about their future.
Miami has already seen a few players depart and earlier today veteran Charles Brantley announced he'll be entering the portal. Brantley transferred to Miami in 2025 after making 24 starts at Michigan State. There was the expectation that Brantley would be competing to lock down one of the starting cornerback sports at Miami, but that never happened.

Brantley appeared in just three games this season and was credited with one tackle. It was a far cry from his production at Michigan State, where he had 103 tackles, 18 pass break-ups and five interceptions in 31 games with the Spartans.
He was part of an incoming portal group that included defensive backs Keionte Scott and Jakobe Thomas. While Scott and Thomas have been stalwarts and undisputed leaders in the Hurricanes secondary, Brantley found himself buried on the bench with younger talent like OJ Frederique and Ethan O'Connor beating him out for playing time.
Brantley is the seventh player from the roster to enter the portal, joining defensive linemen Donta Simpson Jr. and Daylen Russell, wide receivers Ray Ray Joseph and Ny Carr, safety Markeith Williams, and tight end Brock Schott, who has already committed to Indiana.
When does the transfer portal window close?
As Cristobal and his staff make their final preparations for Thursday's semifinal showdown with the Rebels, they continue to conduct business in the portal with a little more than a week remaining in the window. The transfer portal opened on January 2, and it will close at the end of the day on January 16.
So far, Miami has been taking in visitors, but commitments aren't expected until after Thursday's game. The Hurricanes are currently linked to several players and announcements could come as early as Friday.
