Florida State delivers Miami hoops its fourth straight loss

Florida State had multiple big runs throughout the game to dominate Miami and send the Hurricanes to their fourth consecutive loss on Wednesday night.

The misery for the Miami basketball team continued on Wednesday night at the Watsco Center. Florida State used multiple big runs throughout the game to dominate Miami in an 80-65 win. Miami has lost four consecutive games, 11 of their last 12 and dating back to last season 21 of its last 25 games.

Senior forward Matthew Cleveland kept Miami competitive with 14 of his 16 points in the second half. Miami shot 37.6 percent from the floor and continued to be abysmal on 3-point attempts, making five of 21 versus Florida State on Wednesday night. Miami trailed by as many as 25 points.

Florida State had a stretch in the second half where they made 11 consecutive shots to ensure the blowout. Malique Ewin led Florida State with 20 points on 10-14 from the floor with 10 rebounds. Taylor Bowen with 16 and Jamir Watkins with 10 were the other players in double figures for Florida State.

After trailing by 15 early in the second half, Miami cut the deficit to six twice before Florida State put the game away. Florida State was able to empty its bench with about three minutes left in the game. The Seminoles dominated the game almost exactly as the score indicated.

Miami basketball couldn't hang close with Florida State in a rivalry game

A telling stat was that Miami committed 13 turnovers to 10 for Florida State, but the Seminoles outscored Miami 20-3 in points off turnovers. Florida State made 10 of its 24 3-point attempts. The Seminoles also had a 17-8 advantage in fast break points.

Miami will attempt to end its 14-game ACC losing streak on Saturday versus Wake Forest with a 5 p.m. ET Tipoff. The Demon Deacons are 11-4 overall and 3-1 in the ACC. Wake Forest beat North Carolina State 77-59 in its most recent game on Saturday in Winston-Salem.
