Former Miami cornerback Jontavius Wyman announced Saturday that he will continue his football career at East Mississippi Community College. The former four-star recruit left Miami earlier this month after saying he planned to sit out the entire 2026 season.

On Aug. 1, Wyman announced that he was stepping away from football after "a lot of thought, prayer, and conversations" with people close to him. His message said he had decided to sit out the year but added, "I WILL BE BACK!!" Miami coach Mario Cristobal later said at the time on 560 WQAM that Wyman was "no longer with the team."
East Mississippi opens its 10-game schedule Aug. 27 on the road against Southwest Mississippi Community College. The Lions are coming off a 7-3 season in which they went 5-1 in conference play and shared the MACCC North Division championship.
East Mississippi has won five NJCAA national championships under coach Buddy Stephens and was the program featured in the first two seasons of Netflix's "Last Chance U."
Wyman enrolled at Miami in January after signing with the Hurricanes in December. He originally committed to Georgia in July of 2024, before Miami flipped him to the Canes in April of 2025.
Wyman was dominant in his senior season, finishing with 52 tackles, three tackles for loss and three picks (two of those were returned for touchdowns). On offense, he put up 48 receptions for 869 yards and 10 touchdowns.
It's unclear what prompted the move in the first place, but going the JUCO route could give Wyman a chance to return to FBS football in the future if he can play well and everything else is settled.
