Former Miami coach Mark Richt was enthusiastic when discussing the ACC schedule release in January. During the discussion about the Miami schedule, Richt reminisced about the 2017, 41-8 Miami win over Notre Dame. That was the last time Miami played Notre Dame.
The 2017 win improved Miami to 9-0 on their way to a 10-0 start before losing its last three games. ESPN College GameDay was in Coral Gables for the first time for the Notre Dame game in 2017. The 2017 Notre Dame game was also the second consecutive week the Miami game was on ABC in primetime.
Notre Dame at Miami will be played on Sunday, Aug. 31 with a 7:30 p.m. ET kickoff on ABC. That is Labor Day weekend and the opening week of the 2025 college football season. South Carolina at Virginia Tech with a game time to be determined is the only other game scheduled for Aug. 31.
Chris Fowler and Kirk Herbstreit, the top college football announcing team for ABC and ESPN, who did the 2017 games versus Notre Dame and Virginia Tech, will likely call the Texas at Ohio State game on Saturday, Aug. 30, opening weekend. Notre Dame at Miami is one of two big non-conference 2025 home games for the Hurricanes.

"We're playing Notre Dame again baby. The last time we played them at Miami in 2017 they were top five in the country and we beat them 41-8...I am sure they are going to look at that film and the reaction we had. When Notre Dame shows up it will be a sellout."Former Miami HC and QB Mark RIcht
Miami is coming off of a 10-3 season and barely missed a berth in the College Football Playoff. Notre Dame was 14-2 in 2024 and finished as the National Runner-Up to Ohio State. Notre Dame at Miami will be one of the biggest games during the opening weekend of the 2025 college football season.
Notre Dame is a consensus Top 10 team in the way-too-early 2025 Top 25 rankings. Miami is anywhere from third in the CBS Sports early rankings to 23rd in the ESPN projected preseason rankings. Miami also has a potential Top-25 game vs. Florida on Sept. 20 at Hard Rock Stadium.
