Former Miami starting quarterback Tyler Van Dyke, who also spent time at Wisconsin and later joined SMU, is now on SMU's staff as an offensive assistant.
Van Dyke started his college career at Miami, won ACC Rookie of the Year honors in 2021, then took a winding path through the transfer portal before landing at SMU for 2025. Now, he'll be working in an SMU program led by head coach Rhett Lashlee, the same coach who coordinated Miami's offense during Van Dyke's breakout season.

For his career, Van Dyke put up 7,900 passing yards, 55 touchdowns and 23 interceptions across his college stops, with the bulk of that production coming during his three seasons as Miami's primary starter (2021-23). His peak year was 2021, when he threw for 2,931 yards with 25 touchdowns and six interceptions.
After 2023, Van Dyke transferred to Wisconsin and appeared in three games in 2024 before a season-ending injury. He finished that short Wisconsin stint with 422 passing yards and one passing touchdown (plus a rushing touchdown). He then committed to SMU for what was expected to be his final season of eligibility, a move that reunited him with Lashlee's system and brought him into a quarterback room that already featured Kevin Jennings.
Van Dyke ultimately did not appear in any games at SMU in 2025. With his playing career now in the rearview, he transitions into the coaching track, working within an SMU staff that includes several notable names, including D'Eriq King as co-offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach. He backed up King in 2020 at Miami and appeared in two games that season.
Before college, Van Dyke was a consensus four-star recruit out of Suffield Academy in Connecticut and threw for 2,260 yards and 21 touchdowns as a senior in 2019.
