Former Miami safety Markeith Williams is expected to continue his career at Oklahoma State, giving the former four-star recruit a fresh start after his Hurricanes career never fully turned into the role many expected when he signed with the program.

Williams is expected to join the Cowboys after leaving Miami during the 2025 season.

Former Miami defensive back gets fresh start after Miami career stalled

Williams arrived at Miami as part of the 2022 signing class after a standout career at Evans High in Orlando. He was a four-star prospect by 247Sports and ESPN, with 247Sports ranking him No. 246 nationally, No. 19 among safeties and No. 28 in Florida.

The 6-foot-2 defensive back finished his Miami career with 31 tackles and two passes defended over 25 games in three seasons. He played four games as a true freshman in 2022, then became a more regular piece in 2023 and 2024. His best football came in the 2023 Pinstripe Bowl against Rutgers, when he finished with a career-high eight tackles.

Williams made his first career start at Syracuse late in the 2024 season and had three solo tackles in the Pop-Tarts Bowl against Iowa State.

Oklahoma State is in a way different situation than the one Williams left at Miami. The Cowboys are going through one of the biggest roster resets in the country under new coach Eric Morris after a 1-11 season and the end of the Mike Gundy era. Oklahoma State's 105-man roster is set to feature roughly 85 new players, including 60 portal additions.

Oklahoma State's 2026 roster already includes several transfer safeties, including Evan Jackson from North Texas, Christian Bodnar from Liberty, Quinton Hammonds from North Texas, Mose Phillips III from Missouri and Vincent Holmes from Washington.

Williams had already been removed from Miami and entered the transfer portal early in the 2025 season.
