Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has officially jumped into the Miami-Notre Dame playoff debate, backing the Hurricanes' head-to-head argument after fresh betting odds favored the Irish.

DeSantis posted Sunday on X in response to a graphic from betting analyst Todd Fuhrman that shared BetMGM's updated odds to make the College Football Playoff. The numbers showed Notre Dame as a solid favorite to reach the CFP while Miami sat as a long shot.

The governor wrote that if Notre Dame gets in and Miami does not, it would "further erode the importance of the regular season," and added that when records are identical, head-to-head should be the tiebreaker when choosing between the two.

In the BetMGM numbers Fuhrman shared, Oklahoma was listed as an overwhelming favorite to reach the playoff, with Notre Dame coming in as a strong choice as well, while Miami sat at 8-1 and Vanderbilt even further back. James Madison and BYU also appeared on the board.

The Hurricanes finished the regular season 10-2, which includes a season-opening win over then-No. 6 Notre Dame. They also have reached back-to-back double-digit win seasons for the first time since 2002-03. Notre Dame, meanwhile, has ripped off 10 straight wins after an 0-2 start that included that loss to Miami and a one-point home loss to Texas A&M.

DeSantis has stuck up for Florida teams in the past regarding the College Football Playoff. Two years ago he blasted the CFP committee for leaving undefeated, ACC-champion Florida State out of the four-team playoff, even asking the state legislature to set aside $1 million to help FSU sue over the decision.

The Hurricanes still need chaos on championship weekend and a friendly committee to slide into the playoff as one of the final at-large selections. But DeSantis' comments turn up the pressure and add to the debate.
