Daniel Cuvet hit a sixth-inning grand slam after Florida International rallied from a 3-0 lead as Miami won 7-3 on Tuesday night at Loan Depot Park. Miami improved to 10-3 with the win. The Hurricanes received a great performance by its bullpen and key hits from the bottom of its lineup to pull out the win.
Eighth-place hitter Todd Hudson, ninth batter Fabio Peralta and leadoff Michael Torres had RBI singles in the top of the second to put Miami up 3-0. FIU scored two runs in the third inning and one run in the fifth inning to tie the game. Alex Giroux started and pitched six innings for Miami, allowing five hits and three earned runs with no walks and three strikeouts.
Miami regained the lead when Tanner Smith singled, Peralta walked and Torrest got on via a fielders' choice before Cuvet hit the grand slam to close the scoring on Tuesday. Lazaro Collera, AJ Ciscar and Jackson Cleveland each pitched an inning of shutout baseball to help Miami earn the win.
Hudson and Miami shortstop and cleanup hitter Jake Ogden were the only Hurricanes with multiple hits on Tuesday. Smith had one hit in two at-bats with two runs scored. Miami pitchers combined to allow six hits and one walk with nine strikeouts. The Hurricanes drew six walks off FIU and had eight hits.

Miami knocked out FIU starter Logan Runde after he allowed three earned runs on four hits and three walks with no strikeouts in two innings. FIU used five pitchers. Tracen Cameron allowed two hits and a walk for FIU and allowed the grand slam to Cuvet. Javier Crespo and Kareh Valentin had two hits each for FIU.
Miami hosts Villanova on Wednesday in the second of two midweek games this week. Connecticut is at Miami for a three-game series from Friday through Sunday in the final non-conference weekend series this season before traveling to Wake Forest next weekend to begin ACC play.
