Miami quarterback Carson Beck and defensive end Rueben Bain Jr. both climbed in the latest On3 Heisman Trophy poll after Week 3, keeping the Hurricanes in the national awards race on both sides of the ball. On3's panel of seven national analysts — Andy Staples, Ari Wasserman, Chris Low, Brett McMurphy, Pete Nakos, JD PicKell and Charles Power — ranked Beck No. 3 and Bain No. 8, with Oklahoma's John Mateer at No. 1 and Florida State's Tommy Castellanos at No. 2.

Beck went 23 of 28 for 340 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions in Miami's 49-12 win over then-No. 18 South Florida. He also added a rushing score to the statement win last Saturday. Through three games, Beck has 812 passing yards, seven touchdowns, two interceptions and an 89.9 QBR. Miami is 3-0 and ranked No. 4 in the AP Top 25, so that helps his case too.

"Beck continues to complete a really high percentage of his passes, sitting at 78.3% on the year now. That kind of efficiency has helped make Miami a very, very dangerous team as the first month of the season carries on... Beck’s playing as well as anyone in the country right now."

Bain is one of only two defensive players in On3's top 10 this week, joining Ohio State safety Caleb Downs. Bain posted six tackles, one tackle for loss and two pass breakups in the South Florida win, per On3's game notes. Bain this season has 1.5 sacks, a forced fumble and an interception for a defense that has powered Miami’s rise into the top five.

"The story of the Miami defense has been how influential the pass rush has been. And going against a talented and dynamic USF offense, Miami completely controlled things at the line of scrimmage. Bain was a huge part of that."

On3's method to count points: 10 points for a first-place vote, nine for second and so on across each voter's top 10. Beck earned 45 points to sit third and Bain earned 15 points at eighth.
