Miami right tackle Francis Mauigoa was the No. 10 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft by the New York Giants. Mauigoa is the fifth first-round pick by the Giants from Miami in their history. Mauigoa is also the first offensive lineman from Miami selected in the first round since 2015.

Ironically, the last Miami OL taken in the first round was Ereck Flowers, who was selected ninth overall by the Giants in 2015. The other first-round picks from Miami by the Giants were tight end Jeremy Shockey, 14th in 2002, defensive tackle Williams Joseph, 25th in 2003 and defensive back Kenny Phillips, 31st in 2008.

ESPN projects Mauigoa as the first-team left guard for the Giants. Mauigoa would be moving from his natural position of RT, where he started 42 games for Miami during his three seasons. Matt Bowen of ESPN named Mauigoa as the best anchor among the top 100 prospects in the 2026 NFL Draft last week.

Shockey spent his first six seasons with the Giants, playing 82 games with 625 targets and 371 receptions for 4,228 receiving yards and 27 touchdowns. Shockey was named First-team All-Pro in 2002, was a four-time Pro Bowler and was named to the 2002 Pro Football Writers All-Rookie Team.

Francis Mauigoa will make an immediate impact for the New York Giants

The Giants named Shockey the 48th-best player in franchise history and he was named the NFL Alumni Tight End of the Year in 2005. Shockey won Super Bowl XLII with the Giants and XLIV with the New Orleans Saints.

Joseph played four seasons with the Giants, playing in 55 games with 17 starts, 103 tackles, six quarterback hits, 21.0 tackles for loss, seven sacks, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery. Joseph played his final two seasons with the Oakland Raiders.

Phillips played in 56 games with 41 starts, 275 tackles, four QB hits, 3.0 TFLs, eight interceptions, 26 passes defended, three fumble recoveries and one forced fumble. After missing the 2013 and 2014 seasons, Phillips finished his career playing three games with New Orleans in 2015.

Mauigoa will have the four former Hurricanes if he wants to discuss the adjustment from Miami to New York (New Jersey). Mauigoa should be an anchor on the Giants' OL for a long time and a potential future All-Pro performer.
