With Week 1 of the NFL season now in the books, here's how the Miami Hurricanes' 2025 rookie class fared in their NFL debuts.
QB Cam Ward
Cam Ward's first start came against the Denver Broncos. Ward finished 12-of-28 for 112 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions, took six sacks for 50 yards, and lost a fumble in a 20–12 loss to the Broncos. Tennessee managed just 4.0 yards per attempt and his longest completion was 29 yards. Despite the low numbers, many analysts pointed to the lack of OL and WR for Ward in his debut.
K Andres Borregales
New England’s sixth-rounder Andres Borregales supplied nearly all of the Patriots’ scoring in a 20–13 defeat to the Raiders. The rookie kicker went 2-for-3 on field goals — good from 35 and 44 yards — and hit his lone PAT for a seven-point debut. The kick that he missed was from 40 yards and went wide right.
TE Elijah Arroyo and RB Damien Martinez
Second-round tight end Elijah Arroyo caught the first regular-season pass of his career in Seattle’s 17–13 loss to San Francisco. He was targeted once and turned it into a seven-yard reception. He saw roughly a third of the offensive snaps behind veteran AJ Barner.
Seventh-round running back Damien Martinez, another Miami product now in Seattle, did not record a Week 1 touch. After late-week roster maneuvering, he is on the Seahawks' practice squad and was not part of the offensive rotation in the opener.
OT Jalen Rivers
On the interior for Cincinnati, fifth-rounder Jalen Rivers was active but used sparingly in a 17–16 road win at Cleveland. He logged one offensive snap in a jumbo package.
LB Francisco Mauigoa and DE Tyler Baron
Two Miami edge/second-level rookies broke the huddle for the Jets in a wild 34–32 loss to the Steelers. Francisco "Kiko" Mauigoa and Tyler Baron each played seven defensive snaps, but did not register any stats.
