Initial injury report for Miami at Stanford proves why Week 0 can be a detriment

No. 7 Miami will open the season Friday night without two sophomores, the first ACC availability report of the year showed Tuesday.

Defensive back Ja'Boree Antoine and tight end Luka Gilbert were listed as out for the 9 p.m. ET game at Stanford.

Initial injury report for Miami at Stanford released

Gilbert's absence was expected as he will miss the season after an injury suffered at home over the summer. Antoine is going through a late-camp issue.

The Cardinal listed 15 players out, one doubtful, five questionable and four probable coming off a 37-27 Week 0 win over Hawaii on a short week.

While Week 0 can be beneficial for teams looking to knock the rust off and take advantage of Week 1 teams that haven't played yet, this is the drawback. Stanford is dealing with a slew of injuries and Miami is coming into the matchup relatively healthy. The Cardinal will get an extra week at some point in the season to rest up, but the results from the initial injury report will make it tougher to upset the Canes.

Still, for Stanford, some of the biggest names will suit up for them against Miami and injuries have not eliminated the possibility of them shocking the world on Friday night.

Miami beat Stanford 42-7 last season in Coral Gables. Friday is the Hurricanes' first game of 2026.
