With one day remaining before the CFP quarterfinal between Miami and Ohio State in the Cotton Bowl, you would think there isn't much more from either side that can be said.
And after making his comments last week, Buckeyes All-American wide receiver Jeremiah Smith said he's not going to respond to too much of the feedback that he or his family has received. Smith is from the Miami area and starred at Chaminade-Madonna Prep School in Hollywood, Florida.
“I’m gonna be the bigger man and let my game do the talking New Years Eve”

"I've been seeing everything. A lot of my family members are heavy on social media, so they've been sending me a lot of stuff," Smith said. "I mean I really don't think too much of it, so I'm just taking the high road and being the bigger man. Not saying anything, I'm just going to let my game do the talking for me."
More recently, Smith said that he likely would've been a Miami Hurricane had the program been in better shape when he was going through his recruitment. Smith was a five-star prospect in the Class of 2024 and Miami was coming off of a 7-6 record in Mario Cristobal's second season. Since then the Hurricanes are 21-5.
What did Smith say in his earlier comments?
Smith's comments in that clip are a significant change from last week when the receiver had plenty to say about the Hurricanes, including a game that happened before he was born. He also seemed to welcome the potential for chippy play on Wednesday night.
Jeremiah Smith if he’s worried about late hits during the Cotton Bowl:

“I’m not really worried about that because I’m probably the one that’s going to be doing it too. I’m going to be a little chippy out there. I’m bringing it all this week.” pic.twitter.com/uN47q7wxZK
With Smith's South Florida roots and the potential of matching up against home-grown Hurricane defenders like OJ Frederique and Bryce Fitzgerald, there is reason to expect a lot of trash talk, pushing and shoving.
Unfortunately, one matchup we won't see is Smith against Miami cornerback Damari Brown, who has been ruled out for the game. Smith and Brown battled a lot in high school. There are a lot of clips of their last matchup floating around on Instagram when Brown, playing for Plantation American Heritage, got the best of Smith the last time they faced in 2022.
