Miami fans have spent years hearing Jeremiah Smith's name in the context of the Hurricanes. Now the latest way-too-early 2027 NFL mock draft has him going to Miami anyway.
CBS Sports projected Smith, the Ohio State superstar and former South Florida five-star, to the Miami Dolphins with the No. 3 pick in its early 2027 NFL mock draft. It is a funny twist for Hurricanes fans because Smith is the biggest recruiting "what-if" of the Mario Cristobal era — a local product Miami pushed hard for before he stuck with Ohio State on signing day.

The Tua vs Herbert debates are over.
Let the Arch Manning vs Jeremiah Smith debate with Dolphins fans begin. This will last until April 2027. Here we go.. 🐬 pic.twitter.com/ieeBq0y5dA
WR Jeremiah Smith to Miami, just not the Hurricanes
The mock draft had Texas quarterback Arch Manning going No. 1 to the New York Jets, Oregon quarterback Dante Moore going No. 2 to the Arizona Cardinals and Smith landing with the Dolphins at No. 3. Smith is one of the most complete wide receiver prospects in years and he has already posted back-to-back 1,200-yard seasons at Ohio State.
Smith was the No. 1 player in the 2024 class, a five-star receiver from Chaminade-Madonna and the type of prospect who would have instantly changed Miami's offense. Ohio State had the receiver development pitch with Brian Hartline's track record and a recent run of first-round wideouts. Miami had location, relationships and the chance to make Smith the face of a hometown rebuild.
Smith ultimately stayed with Ohio State on signing day and the what-if will live on forever.
