Speaking during this week’s NFL scouting combine media availability, Jeremiyah Love said his favorite hurdle came against the Miami Hurricanes but was wiped out by a penalty, then added: "You can tell I don't really like Miami."

Notre Dame RB Jeremiyah Love calls out Miami

Miami beat Notre Dame 27-24 in the season opener, a one-score game decided by a late Hurricanes field goal. The Hurricanes' defensive front largely kept Love from taking over, holding him to 10 carries for 33 yards, and four catches for 26 yards.

The hurdle Love referenced was in the second quarter. After a big completion to set up a promising drive, Love had a 10 yard rush — that included a hurdle — down to inside the five-yard line, but a holding call brought it back.

The Miami-Notre Dame game became one of the reference points in how the College Football Playoff selection debate unfolded months later. The rivalry was already pretty heated before the 2025 CFP selection debate, but it essentially had gasoline poured on it during that time.

Across three seasons at Notre Dame, Love had 433 carries for 2,882 rushing yards (6.7 yards per carry) and 36 rushing touchdowns, along with 63 catches for 594 yards and six receiving touchdowns. In 2025, he ran 199 times for 1,372 yards and 18 touchdowns, and added 27 receptions for 280 yards and three more scores.

Love declared for the 2026 NFL Draft after winning the Doak Walker Award and finishing as a Heisman finalist. He's viewed as a potential first-round pick and could be the first running back selected.

Mel Kiper Jr. has Love as the No. 2 overall prospect in the 2026 class and RB1 on his board. Kiper's latest Round 1 mock projects Love to the Kansas City Chiefs at No. 9 overall.
