It's nice to see someone from Notre Dame be the adult in the room and, no surprise, it's Jeremiyah Love. The All-American running back is in New York as one of the Heisman Trophy finalists, and he was asked about the disappointment of the Irish not making the CFP 12-team bracket.
And Love didn't cry about it. He didn't complain about it, and he didn't pass blame onto a committee or a conference or anything else. Love took accountability and showed the example of maturity that his school's Athletic Director has failed to do over the past week.

"It was hard for me, but I've accepted it," Love said. "I'm just down about it, but the team, in general, we were in charge of our own destiny. We put ourselves in this situation, so I mean, everyone just accepted it. Obviously, we're sad about it, we're down about it, but at the end of the day, we have to get back to work and get prepared for the next season. It definitely sucked not being the last team to get into the Playoff, but we're handling it well."
Love offers accountability not excuses
While Love is upset about Notre Dame not making the playoffs, he acknowledges that the Irish had control of their destiny from Week 1 until the end of the season. Notre Dame and Miami played on the field and Miami won. There was no guarantee the result of that game was going to be part of the playoff discussion four months later, but it was.
The Hurricanes' defense showed Love the full respect he deserved in that game. They knew that they had to contain him to have a chance to win, and they held him to 33 yards on 10 carries. It was truly the difference in the game.
When it comes to Notre Dame vs. Miami, there are a lot of old wounds, but there's always been a respect for the effort that both sides gave on the field. Love showed respect to the Hurricanes by acknowledging that they were the better team that day and most Hurricane fans respect Love for the player and competitor he is.
