When Miami offensive line commit Joel Ervin recently shut down his recruitment and focused solely on the Hurricanes, it was a big win for the 2026 Class. Now, just one day after dropping from No. 8 to No. 9 in the recruiting rankings (per On3), Miami may be on the way back up. According to 247Sports, Ervin has been upgraded from a three-star to a four-star recruit. Rivals also bumped Ervin up to a 4-star but On3 and other recruiting services have not made any changes just yet. Still, it is a great win for the young prospect as he now gains blue chip status.

Standing at 6-foot-6 and weighing in around 320+ pounds, Ervin moves with the agility and power that impresses high-school talent evaluators. With his frame and dominant performance on the field, it’s no surprise that 247Sports reevaluated. At Fort Myers High School he helped pave the way for 1,759 rushing yards and 31 touchdowns over 12 games. He is currently ranked as the No. 528 player in the country, the No. 22 offensive lineman, and the No. 32 player in the state of Florida.
Back in March, Ervin “shut down” his recruitment, citing comfort with Mario Cristobal and Alex Mirabal. His official visit to Miami further solidified his bond with the program as he said he was “amazed” by the experience and subsequently canceled any future visits. Prior to committing to Miami, Ervin was committed to Louisville.
Miami’s 2026 class is already shaping up to be top-tier, especially along the offensive line. For the 2026 recruiting cycle, Miami currently has OL commitments from 5-star Jackson Cantwell, 4-stars Ben Congdon and Ervin, and 3-stars JJ Sparks, Rhys Woodrow and Canon Pickett. If Miami can continue to be aggressive, and if the other recruits get the same bump, the Hurricanes could end with a top-10 class.
