Miami wide receiver JoJo Trader recorded his first reception of the 2025 season and had his first touchdown this year on the second drive as the Hurricanes took a 7-0 lead in the first quarter at SMU on Saturday. Trader finished with three receptions for 57 yards and a TD in the first quarter.
Trader played versus Notre Dame and Stanford but did not record a reception. In the 2024 Pop-Tarts Bowl loss to Iowa State, Trader had three receptions for 61 yards and a TD. Before dealing with injuries this season, Trader was expected to be an impact receiver for Miami.
Miami is playing against SMU without second-leading receiver, C.J. Daniels. Trader started for Miami with Daniels out. Keelan Marion and Malachi Toney were the other starting WRs for Miami at SMU. Tony Johnson and true freshman Joshua Moore are also expected to have increased snaps versus SMU.
Trader was a consensus four-star prospect, the 42nd-ranked player and ninth WR in the 2024 class in the 247Sports composite rankings. At 6'1 and 182 pounds according to his official Miami biography, Trader provides Miami with good size at WR.

Trader had nearly half of the seven first quarter completions by Carson Beck as Miami led 7-0 after the first quarter. Daniels and Toney have been the dominant receivers for Miami in 2025. The tandem has combined for nearly half of the Miami receptions in 2025 and over 50 percent of the receiving yards.
If Trader or someone else can emerge as the third Miami receiver, it would make the Hurricanes' offense more versatile during the final month of the 2025 season. Miami is facing an SMU defense that is second-to-last nationally, allowing 303.5 passing yards per game.
In the next two weeks, Miami hosts Syracuse, the 14th-ranked pass defense in the ACC and North Carolina State, which is 15th. Opportunities should be there for Miami receivers during the first three games in November.
