Josh Pate gives Miami fans something they can cheer about with latest QB rankings

Josh Pate put Darian Mensah first on his preseason quarterback rankings, which were based on expected production this season, and were not as much about prior experience and status.

Pate is among a group of analysts who are high on Mensah and has even thrown his name into the Heisman conversation.

Mensah is coming into the season as one of the most-hyped QBs in recent Miami history. The expectations for Carson Beck weren’t even as high as what we’ve seen in this offseason for Mensah. Granted, Beck was coming off an injury and just threw a ton of picks in the season prior at Georgia. But the pressure is definitely something that has been prevalent and unique to his case as he comes in from Duke.

Luckily enough, Miami has plenty of weapons for Mensah to play with so that he can meet, and even exceed, expectations. Cooper Barkate follows him from Duke, RB Mark Fletcher returns, and of course Malachi Toney is looking to build off of his historic freshman season. The offensive line might be a question mark at the beginning of the season (it looks like the Canes will be starting two freshmen on the OL), but by the middle of the season Alex Mirabal and Mario Cristobal will have that unit in a solid place.

The rest of Pate's list makes sense and the top 10 that he decided on shouldn't have many people complaining. The main issue for many will be the order, but that is not the case for Canes fans. Also, his list doubles as a 2027 NFL draft projection. We could see four or even five of the QBs on the list selected in the opening round of next year's draft.
