Former Miami defensive back Keionte Scott offered a short endorsement of Carson Beck during the quarterback's preseason debut Thursday night. "Always was a good QB btw..." Scott posted on X while the game was going on.

Beck, a rookie with the Arizona Cardinals, completed 15 of 19 passes for 188 yards and a touchdown in the Hall of Fame Game against Carolina. He finished with a 125.4 passer rating and was 11 of 14 for 148 yards and a score at halftime. The Cardinals lost 33-30.

Scott and Beck were teammates at Miami in 2025, when the Hurricanes reached the College Football Playoff National Championship Game. Scott recorded 64 tackles, 13 tackles for loss, five sacks, five pass breakups, two forced fumbles and two interceptions. He was a second-team All-ACC selection and returned an interception for a touchdown against Ohio State in the CFP quarterfinal.

Both were drafted in April. Arizona took Beck in the third round at No. 65 overall, the third quarterback selected behind Fernando Mendoza and Ty Simpson. Tampa Bay took Scott in the fourth round at No. 116.

Scott's comment pushed back on a criticism that followed Beck for more than a year. Beck entered the 2024 season at Georgia as a candidate to be the No. 1 overall pick, then threw 12 interceptions, including nine over a four-game stretch from mid-October to early November. He had three-interception games against Alabama, Texas and Florida. His interception rate rose from 1.4% in 2023 to 2.7% in 2024.

He also tore the ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow on the final play of the first half of the SEC Championship Game and had season-ending surgery. He transferred to Miami the following month.

The turnover stretch defined Beck's evaluation from that point forward, though it did not reflect the rest of his college career. Beck went 24-3 as a starter at Georgia and threw for 3,941 yards with 24 touchdowns and six interceptions in 2023 while completing 72.4% of his passes.

He returned to that form at Miami. Beck completed 338 passes at a 72.4% rate for 3,813 yards, 30 touchdowns and 12 interceptions in 16 games. He was named Fiesta Bowl MVP after throwing for 268 yards and two touchdowns and running for the winning score in a 31-27 win over Mississippi.
