ACC Wide Receiver of the Week: Malachi Toney

Toney tied the Miami single-game record previously set by Mike Harley in 2021 against Duke with 13 receptions. Entering the postseason, Toney is one reception behind Xavier Restrepo for the Miami single-season record of 85 set in 2023.

Toney moved into eighth place in Miami history and set the single-season freshmen record with 970 receiving yards in 2025. Charleston Rambo holds the Miami single season record with 1,172 receiving yards set in 2021. Toney should become the seventh Miami player and record the eighth season over 1,000 yards in the postseason.

The 87.8 grade Toney earned from Pro Football Focus for his performance at Pittsburgh was the highest for Miami in week 14. Toney finished with 21 touches on Saturday overall, was targeted 16 times as a receiver and had 122 yards after the catch.

Toney has 25 receptions for 272 yards and two TDs, eight carries for 46 yards and two completions in three attempts for 24 yards and another score. Miami offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson has been creative getting the ball to Toney. Toney has a carry in seven consecutive games and a pass attempt in the last four.

The reception and receiving yardage records broken by Toney in 2025 passed Ahmmon Richards in 2016. Toney has also tied Richard with four 100-yard receiving games in 2025. Toney has had one of, if not the best, freshman seasons in the history of the storied Miami football program.
