Miami sophomore wide receiver Malachi Toney was named ACC Wide Receiver of the Week on Tuesday after a record-setting performance in the Hurricanes' 45-6 victory at Stanford. Toney also was selected The Associated Press national player of the week.

Malachi Toney was named ACC WR of the Week and AP National Player of the Week
Toney caught 12 passes for 234 yards and three touchdowns Friday night at Stanford Stadium.
Darian Mensah completed 27 of 30 passes for 401 yards and five touchdowns in his Miami debut. The seventh-ranked Hurricanes totaled 549 yards in the blowout.
Both players have shot up the Heisman power rankings and are now in the lead very early on in the race. If they have more games in the same ballpark as Week 1 (which is very unlikely), Mensah and Toney will easily get an invite to New York.
Other ACC Week 1 Honors
Quarterback: Mason Heintschel, Pittsburgh
Mason Heintschel completed 31 of 41 passes for 453 yards and seven touchdowns with no interceptions in a 59-14 win over Miami (Ohio). The seven scoring throws set an ACC record and tied the Pitt school record. Heintschel was also the runner-up for AP national player of the week.
Running back: Nate Sheppard, Duke
Sheppard rushed for 227 yards, the fifth-highest single-game total in Duke history, in a 17-3 victory over Tulane.
Offensive lineman: PJ Williams, SMU
Williams helped the Mustangs to a 27-24 win at Florida State on Monday night.
Defensive lineman: Bryce Lewis, Duke
Lewis recorded a career-high six tackles, three tackles for loss and two sacks.
Linebacker: Vincent Firenze, Wake Forest
Firenze had nine tackles, including six solo stops, one tackle for loss and a forced fumble in a 38-16 win over Akron.
Defensive back: Jimmy Wyrick, SMU
Wyrick finished with eight tackles, a sack, a tackle for loss and a pass breakup.
Specialist: Rahkeem Smith, Georgia Tech
Smith returned a kickoff 100 yards for a touchdown in a 14-13 loss to Colorado.
Rookie of the Week: Shavane Anderson Jr., running back, Syracuse
Anderson rushed for 102 yards and three touchdowns in his collegiate debut during a 66-3 win over New Hampshire.
