Truly this freshman can do it all

Anyone who doesn't believe Malachi Toney is the best freshman college football player in the nation probably isn't worth arguing with.

At every step of the way this season, Toney has been the player that Miami has relied on to make something happen. And he delivers almost every time. In the first half against Virginia Tech, Toney showed the full arsenal of weapons in the first half.

Toney puts the pass on the money

We've seen some examples of Toney's passing ability. As a senior in high school, Toney had to play quarterback in a crunch and went 15-of-18 for 188 yards and a touchdown for American Heritage in the Florida state championship game, so he's not afraid to throw the ball.

On this play, Toney takes the handoff and then rolls out looking to hit a big play downfield. However, he sees it's covered and checks down to Keelan Marion for a 15-yard gain. He completely takes on the role of a quarterback by keeping his eyes downfield and then looking for the open option.

Toney make big plays, but he's a bigger person

Toney is having a massive day on the field too. Through three quarters, he has eight catches for 122 yards and three carries for 16 yards and, of course, a completed pass for 15 yards. I mean the only thing he isn't doing in Blacksburg is controlling the weather, but I'm sure he could if he were asked too.

And Toney plays hard on every play. That's a good thing, but sometimes accidents happen. On this big pass play, Toney was running hard and stumbled out of bounds where he accidentally knocked over a woman on the sidelines at full force. But Toney quickly helped the woman to her feet and made sure she was ok.

Freshmen are stepping up all over the field

Some injuries in the Miami lineup have forced young players to step into bigger roles this week and that's something that head coach Mario Cristobal has been trying to prepare his young players for all season.

According to Miami Herald reporter Barry Jackson, the Hurricanes are starting four true freshmen today, Toney, wide receiver Daylyn Upshaw, defensive back Bryce Fitzgerald and running back Girard Pringle Jr.

Pringle has become the playmaker out of the backfield that the Hurricanes needed. Check his touchdown catch in the third quarter.
