Mario Cristobal drops the mic on why Miami deserves a CFP spot over Notre Dame

Mario Cristobal has been on the interview circuit all week pushing the reasons why Miami, currently ranked 12th in the College Football Playoff, should be in the final 12-team bracket.

The Hurricanes have plenty of support for their efforts to get in the CFP bracket ahead of Notre Dame and Cristobal spoke to another unlikely ally, former FSU quarterback Danny Kanell, to continue to state his case for Miami's inclusion.

"A year ago, we had to almost campaign and debate things a little bit because everybody had some valid points. Now this year, I think it's just a matter of continuously presenting the facts. At the end of the day, it's two teams with the same record, common opponent, identical metrics and we played the game. We played the game, and we won the game."

The Hurricanes will sit on the sidelines this week

The big problem that Cristobal and the Hurricanes face is they can't do anything more on the field. Miami's regular season is over at 10-2 and the Hurricanes will not play in tonight's ACC Championship Game, so they will need help.

With the belief that at least the top 8 teams in the CFP poll, and more than likely, the top nine ranked teams in the poll, are already locks. Tulane's win over North Texas in the American Conference Championship game was the 10th team. If BYU can pull an upset against Texas Tech, it leaves one final hope — a five-loss Duke team beating Virginia in tonight's ACC Championship Game.

It's a tough spot for Miami to be in, especially considering that Duke got entry into the game through a variety of backdoor tiebreakers that certainly didn't take rankings or quality of team into consideration. There's no good reason why the Hurricanes aren't in tonight's championship game other than the ACC is the most self-destructive, unserious league in the Power 4.

So all Cristobal can do is continue to state Miami's case and hope that if the CFP is put in a position where it's either the Hurricanes or Notre Dame, they will look at the most obvious reason to choose Miami.
