The Miami Hurricanes have a legacy on the defensive line that is legendary. We're talking Russell Maryland, Warren Sapp, Cortez Kennedy, Jerome Brown, Vince Wolfork...you name it. And that legacy could include five-star prospect Jalen Brewster.
Brewster, a Texas Tech commit, will be taking his official visit to Miami on the final weekend of May. The Under Armour All-American is the No. 1-rated defensive lineman in the country.

Jalen Brewster will take an official visit to Miami
Brewster has not been secretive about his desire to keep his recruitment after Red Raiders defensive line coach Zarnell Fitch left the program two weeks ago. Fitch and Brewster had a close relationship, leading the player to say that he was no longer solid to Texas Tech.Â
Mario Cristobal and staff had already been expected to do everything in their power to get Brewster on campus, hoping that the program's rich history of top defensive linemen would give him something to think about. But the recent developments with Fitch have put Brewster back in play and now Miami is among a group of powerhouse programs looking to flip the elite defensive tackle. USC and Texas are also thought to be among the schools trying to make a play.

The Hurricanes defensive line will be well represented in the upcoming NFL Draft. Rueben Bain Jr. is expected to be selected somewhere in the top ten and Akheem Mesidor has also worked his way into a possible first-round selection.
Landing Brewster would be another big feather in the cap of Cristobal, whose reputation continues to grow as the head of an elite recruiting machine at Miami. It's a group that puts a priority on trench play, and it would be a major accomplishment for the Hurricanes to land the top defensive lineman in the country in the 2027 recruiting cycle after signing the top offensive lineman in the 2026 class, Jackson Cantwell.Â
Miami's 2027 recruiting class has been stuck at four commitments for a while, but the program will be welcoming a major influx of elite prospects over the spring and summer with the expectation that the Hurricanes will once again have one of the best classes in the country.
